#19276 - RE: Fred - And answer from FTDI
Perhaps they have several guys, all called Fred!? ;-)<P>

Heheh, perhaps. But they're both named Fred Dart. :)

Normally I wouldn't think much of it but Fred seems to be in charge of both assigning PIDs for FTDI's VID and also in charge of problems with the webpage. He also seems to be the contact for ASIC design. This is not necessarily bad. Fred just multitasks. :)

I got a response back from FTDI soon after I repeated my question here. I was told that their parts can't become an HID/keyboard type device. You can change the VID/PID, but can't change the descriptor which defines what type of USB device it is.

I like the possible solution of obtaining a PS/2-USB adaptor since, incidentally, the project also will need to be able to handle being connected as a keyboard wedge.

Thanks for everyone's help.

Craig Steiner

PD--The answer I got back from FTDI came from Andy, so at least Fred doesn't work alone. :)
