------------------------------- I work at Philips were we have developed an asynchronous 8051 processor for low power applications. Maybe the data-sheet can help you out here, check the philips web-site. Good luck ------- We're very aware of the Philips implementation (You used the Tangram language, I believe); we're not yet sure if we plan to make a pin-to-pin replacement like the Philipps chip is. erik malund wrote: ------------------------------- I know of no project without timing loops. When processing serial input at at a high baud rate I always end up caluclating the ISR to see if there is 'time room' to do what I want to do. Your posting indicates that you have misunderstood what the '51 is: It is NOT a processor It IS a controller --------- To be honest, we're not neccessarily expecting this to be a drop-in replacement; we're making it as close as we can, hopefully to the level where little difference can be seen. We are mainly aiming at very low power consuption with high speed; the standard peripheral set might be constrained for at least the first iteration, for example. ------- If you look through the postings here and other places you will see many applications of the keyboard/display type, this may, indeed, be the bulk of appliactions (school and hobby), but if you look at units produced, this will comprise less than 1%. ------ What do you feel bulk of the units produced are used for? Are the ports typically more valuable than the serial controller, or vice versa? (or is it all indispensable) ----- Maybe the university you are at is doing 'pure research' but if you want to do something that someday may find aa practical purouse stay REAL. ------ The chip will certainly be a real chip, running on real boards; it will have accurate timers, but no, most likely one will not be able to say that a given ISR will execute in x clocks. Mainly because there is no clock to count with. Eino-Ville Talvala Caltech |
