Hi Filip,
The kit from the Farnell catalogue has an RS-232 interface, so all the analogue pre-processing has been done for you. The "only" thing you would have to do is process the RS-232 output. It's ridiculously expensive, though... But, if you have the new (January 2002) Farnell catalogue, check pages 362 and/or 441. There you can find devices with which to build a capacitive detector.
