Dear Gil,
AS far as I could understand, is that you are using 89C51, and you started facing the problem when you changed the chip only (I suppose you again used the same 89C51 chip ???) And in the same circuit, (let me assume, same PCB, same code etc, same power supply), you are facing problems. Can you please email me the schematic with component values? I will try my best to help.
