Presumably, you'll be using the PC's COM port?

So your VB doesn't know anything about 8051 - it's just standard COM port stuff, and similarly your 8051 doesn't know anything about VB

VB is off-topic here, but a 'Search' will show a few hints. Otherwise, you need to find a VB support site.
