zamani now this time dont tell us that the voltage is AC and not DC :) .
I once happened to apply 12V DC to Max232 and it worked until I came to know that and disconnect the power . every manufacturer and designer keeps as much margine as possible against damage due to overvoltage , EMI etc etc.
