The main reason to start this project was to check, if the 8051 can do the job, especially also for a wide range of input frequencies.

Especially its two level interrupt capability helps a lot. So doing it on using an AVR device seems many times harder. Quintessentially that it would no longer fit into 2kB of the AT90S2313 (AVR counterpart of the AT89C2051).


Also I want to replace my old counter built with standard logic circuits. It has an excellent resolution on high frequencies but bad results on some hundred Hz and below.
