Hi Andrew,
Atmel specifies the 89C51 for 5V +/- 20%, so 6V is just within the limit. Better to be on the safe side and use 5V. Some further questions: a. How is the Vcc related to the supply voltage of the rest of the circuit? b. Have you decoupled the controllers Vcc pin? c. How is your RST configuration? The MOV Charles mentioned is a Metal Oxide Varistor; a device that is used for overvoltage protection and spike suppression. Regards, Rob. |
