Dear Jose,

When adding backlighting to a LCD project, you should consider checking the power consumption of this item.

It is possible if you are using a RC reset circuit that youre code hangs instead of the LCD.

Try applying the voltage for the backlighting directly to an external regulated power supply.

Also check you're timing and busy check routines ?
