Thanks for all the replies to this thread. I finally was able to get the LCD working. What I did is change the addressing scheme little bit. I don't know and I don't have time to analyze why the earlier scheme didn't work. I will analyze it sometime later. For the time being my job is done. I changed the 8252 connections to the decoder.

Well, with this I would like to make a request to all here and to the system administrator. When a new thread is started, ususally there are at least 3-5 or sometimes more than 10 replies to it expressing different opinions. Will it not be better if the person who started the thread, posts a concluding message stating the solution to his problem? This will help a lot in a quick search for problems and their solutions.
