#23830 - TCP/IP... but why? |
Can anyone tell me what's the application for TCP/IP on a small controller like the 8051? I was thinking of writing the TCP/IP and PPP stack, but the more I think of it, the less it makes sense. Isn't this some sort of idea that has crashed together with the dot coms? I have seen refrigerators, vending machines and stuff, but it's either outright stupid or very clumsy to use. As for utility meters. Are you going to add another telephone line for each and every household? Besides, I should think that most equipment with a decent userinterface would use an Arm chip or similar? So after some thinking, what's the killer app? Jesper |
