Thanks for the suggestions. I think I'll try to locate some serial to IRDA chips (like the Vishay TIOM4323) and make my own higher-power version of IRDA but in a straight serial fashion, without implementing the "protocol stack" behind it. These chips seem to be hard to find though; it seems this functionality is now built into motherboard chipsets. |
