#25302 - RE: Help on choosing contoller vs. processor |
First of all, thank you both for your replies.
From your input, I guess I will go with a processor. I will have to make this device as light and as portable as possible with low power requirements; more portable and less power hungry than a laptop. I had started to condsider building something with Cygnal's new 100MIPS chip once it came out. That seemed a very attractive alternative to using the Motorola 68000's. Since the Motorola Dragonball VZ processor is only 33 Mhz and runs about 5 MIPS I don't think I'll be flashing a handheld's ROM and loading the program into the device. I'd like to use an AMD or Intel chip running at 500Mhz or more, but I think doing so would require a larger, bulkier and more complicated project. Maybe I'll end up using and ARM type processor. I heard they run up to 200Mhz, and they should consume modest amounts of power. Once again, thank you both for your input. -Freddie |
