Actually, you can now buy single gates in SMT packages... but I'm not sure about the '86. They usually have a "G1" suffix depending upon vendor.
XOR gates are wonderful things. In the OLD DAYS when dinosaurs ruled and "7486" didn't come with tack-on letters, the chip propagation delays were slow enough to utilize some of the other gates for the delay. Much better than "Uglifying" a digital circuit" with resistors and capacitors. You surely would NOT want people to think you were an ANALOG engineer?! :-) -Jay C. Box |
