I wouldn't mind using an 8-bit DAC, it would be easier I think. However, I could never find one that would meet my requirements.
I'd like a DIP style, single channel, 8 bit parallel interface DAC that runs off 5volts VCC, has voltage output (instead of current) and that has "rail-to-rail" output voltages.

I spent a couple hours last night and looking at datasheets, I can find similar DACs but they always have one thing wrong with them.
