I am a micro prosessor vetran and microcontroller newbie. :-)

I recently purchases 40 Intel 8052AH micro cotrollers from a surplus stock of a defunct Co. in canada these chip were in there original Shipping tubes with intel's seals in tact. totally new!

Can somebody tell me the difference between the 8052AH and the 8052AH-basic. or can the term 8052ah & 8052ah-basic be used interchangeably???

Does this mean that there is a 8052AH without a basic interpreter in rom?
Since I was always under the impression that if it had the "AH" suffix that was the one with the Basic in rom.

The resons I ask this becase the book written Jan Alexson "Microcontroller idea book" presents a basic microcontroller circuit on page 24 (Chapter 3) based on the 8052AH (or is it ah-basic) That I cannot seem to make work.

I Initally wire wrapped the circuit on proto board Spent 90 min Verfying all the wiring for errors. powered up and got Nothing. Except a 11.0592 mhz clock & Funtioning ALE line. but no data/address bus Activity when the EA (pin31) is Strapped to (+5v) if i strap the EA line to GND(0V) i get Steady bus activiy with the prossesor attempting to read (Count out the Addresses line) to red External Prog memory. but no activity over the rs-232 interface. after i tap the space bar key...

So after this failure i rebuilt the circuit on a beadboard and the same result a 11.0592 mhz clock & working ALE but no Basic!

I am totally confused by this and more pissed off becase Spent almost 350$ in parts and tools on this project and so far Zilch.
