Start by looking at a textbook on motor control as to how to connect a single phase motor to a triac. Read through the sections on triac control to understand what the triac does and how a triac trigger circuit works. Understand the term phase angle as regards the triac trigger circuit and which end of the ac waveform the trigger angle is measured from.
