I think he's talking about memory mapped IO... so I think he wants to connect his FPGA instead of a RAM module... and all "movx @dptr,a" instructions will actually write data out onto the I2C bus and "movx a,@dptr" instructions will read the I2C interface input buffer. Alternately he could design it as a serial-to-I2C converter...that would save more pins.
