This month issue of Nuts & Volts Magazine (September 2002) has an excellent article describing how to interface RS232 and Visual Basic written by Jon Williams entitled "Data Exchange with Visual BASIC."

The article described in detail how to set up Visual Basic. It would be worth your while to purchase a copy.
