#30863 - RE: LCD with ETSI standard |
Andi:
Can you explain better what you want. Are you wishing you could find a display that supported CGRAM so that you can do custom characters? Or are you trying to find a display that has specific character patterns already built in the 00 -> 20 range? From my experience I find that the vast majority of character mode LCDs are using controller chip Hitachi type 44780 or other very similar types. All these have the CGRAM for 8 or so custom characters. There are a sprinkling of other character mode displays being built that have onboard contoller chips made by other manufacturers and these vary as to what capabilities they offer. And then there is the subject of the bit map graphics types of LCD modules. There are also a small assortment of different controller chips used on these devices, ranging from Hitachi type, Seiko type (2 or 3) and the Toshiba type. (And then there is the Plasma type display such as Noritake that has yet a different type of graphics display controller on it). Of all the graphics display controllers the one that is probably the most flexible, that I have experience with, is the Toshiba T6963C. This chip supports a LCD graphics panel in full bitmap mode...but can also use a built in ROM based character generator and it can have a complete soft character code look up table downloaded to it. A cool feature of the part is the ability to display the bitmap graphcs plane and the character map plane on the screen at the same time in any of AND / OR / XOR pixel configuration. However I have yet to find a real product application that has taken advantage of this feature!! Hope this helps... Mike |
