just to add a feather to the crown, try the 8051 IDE from ACEBUS corp. Its great for a beginner (with out much of a hassle) and it has also got a simulator for you to try. For good books (if you are in India or its proximity) you can try out the
THE 8051 MICROCONTROLLER Architecture, Programming and Applications by Kenneth J Ayala
