Note that these are braces (or "curly-brackets") - not parentheses!

Parentheses are the round brackets ( )

Neither of which is to be confused with the square brackets [ ]

These 3 types of brackets have very different meanings in the 'C' language, and cannot be used interchangeably; so it's unwise to use their names interchangeably!
