Foe SMPTE Decoding you may want to look at this part from Cypress Semiconductor.

I have not done SMPTE myself...but a colleague has and I believe it is not a task you want to or even can undertake directly in firmware on an 8052. A chip is typically used to pick off the SMPTE data.
