#31543 - embedded ethernet problems |
hi... i'm trying to embed a device on my college network using the CS8900A powered ethernet board from embeddedethernet.com using a 8051 microcontroller... i've been vainly trying to get a character across from my board to one destination PC on the network but it just isnt working.... i'm out of ideas here.... one of the problems i'm facing is that our network uses a router to connect to the other networks (internet etc.) while it uses switches for all internal communication b/w the network... so i've used the IP address of the destination PC and not used the address of the router as i think its not necessary... plz correct me if i'm wrong... another thing is that all the codes i've seen across the net do not use the first 6 bits of the registers of CS8900 as described in the datasheet but just use zeroes instead... i've used zeroes too in my code.... i'm using a couple of good packet sniffers but it seems that my board just isnt making any packets.... it doesnt respond to any PING calls too but since i've programmed the microcontroller to only transmit data and not recieve and resend any data so i think thats probable.... i'm new to networking side and this is my first project as such... seemed simple enough to me to work and to me my code is perfect too... i've tried to create a UDP IP packet using the ports 47098 and 4950.... plz help me if anyone has any ideas as to what could be wrong... i'll gladly give more information... i'd desperately like to get this thing working coz i've used up a lot of time and finances on it and i'm very much interested in what it can yield... |
