is there any standardized ide command to identify the Size of the hard disk regardless of the version of the HDD?

Also is the LBA addressign mode supported in all versions of the ide hard disk?

actually i have interfaced the harddisk to an 8051 based circuit? i would like to find the size of a harddisk of any ata version.
also i want to make an copy of a harddisk to another harddisk. So if i write the 8051 assembly code using the LBA scheme will it work for the ata version-1 harddisk?
