Sometimes to figure out how to make things it is a good idea to look at how some other similar things are built. In the case of a conveyor system maybe you should visit a manufacturing plant where small items are packaged and handled via conveyors. Within one or two hours of looking you can see and learn many things. Try to find a plant that boxes tea bags, or fills breakfast cerial into boxes, or fills beer into bottles or similar ideas.
