Well I was just pointing out that 66x does not refer to any particular device, so not having 8k is not necessarily different unless you know that the device is a 668.
As for the 6x/12x switching, it is not the result but the method required to do it. Does it not seem strange that a parallel programer is required for any reason ? No, it is not as insane as SST's original plan to ship unprogrammed "ISP" parts and let you download the ISP code into it with your own parallel programmer, but it is in the same category...
