IC. Which one depends on how sophisticated your drive ideas are. A ULN2803 would be good, if you just want on/off. An H bridge driver would be better if you want 4 quadrant control.

Look out for Allegro semiconductors - their website is full of good data sheets and app notes.

They also have a serially controlled PWM driver IC with two channels, probably perfect for your job.
