I am a software engineer who was recently transferred into dealing with and coding embedded systems.

It was quite a change from my normal projects and has grabbed me more than I thought it might.

What I would like to do now though, is gain more knowledge on the circuitry and design that makes up the hardware around the chips that I am coding, so I can start to grasp the complete picture rather than just a small part of it.

Can anyone recommend any good reference books that would point me in the right direction. I want something that starts from the fundamentals of electronics without needing an engineering degree to be able to comprehend.
