Verify the contents of the SFR's specific to the DS5000 (easy enough with the Dallas software)and check that your code addressing is correct.

I would check the PMON(?) register first. I think that's what its called. It's the one containing CE1/CE2 bits. I believe that only CE1 can be used with this module. CE1 must be selected.
