It reminds me of when I first started working in cryptography,I was taken to Bletchly Park,which is where the code breaking was done in the second world war,to see the 'bombes' which are electro-mechanical computers driven by 5 mile long paper tapes being read at 100 yards /second.All set up to break a particular code by mostly women with huge plug boards,you had to set hundreds of plug combinations.So there you go that was when programmers were real programmers and women were real er... women.You can still them them running,the bombes not the women. |
