Cool, thanks a lot for the tips! ;-)
As Steve said it is pretty computationally heavy... My original solution was to have a serial link between the controller and a PC, do the computations on the PC side, and then transmit the results back to the controller. But within these hard real-time constraints it does not seem to be a feasible solution. My friend is probably going for a 16-bit PIC running at 33 MHz, probably a number of processors in parallel to achieve the required computation speed. Will pass on the information to him...
