#43963 - RE: Accessing the radio atomic Clock at Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Hello Mr. Paul Bruner,
The following web site has a Q/A on the subject. It will explain the pitfalls of what you are trying to do. There is also a Receiver sold by a company in the UK called Cambridge for about forty dollars US. It works pretty good and it is switchable to another Very Low Frequency time signal in Europe. You can also buy a clock which has the receiver and use that. They usually sell for around twenty-five dollars US. Good luck, Charles Bannister ======================================= http://www.chipcenter.com/circuitcellar/askus/may00/Q3_00_89.htm QUESTION: Get the Time Automatically Which one of these two stations, WWV & WWVB, is the one that I could use to receive the time information into a MPU? I have their web site, but each one has so much information I'm pretty confused. One has voice announcements and the other does not. What about the BCD data? Do both send it? I'll be receiving the signal in S. California. Tom Millum ANSWER: Q3_00_89 may 00 WWV is one of the U. S. Government's time standard radio stations. It transmits continuously on 2.5, 5, 10, 15, and 20 MHz. You will need a decent receiver plus an outdoor antenna for the frequencies you wish to receive. Each frequency provides coverage to various areas of the country depending on the time of day and band conditions. I have an old Heathkit clock that receives 5, 10, and 15 MHz, and during the evening, the international broadcasts around 5 MHz easily wipe out the WWV signal. During the day, 10 and 15 MHz work best for me. Also, tree foliage tends to cut down the signal somewhat in the summer months. Bla Bla Bla |
