communicate details of the LCD display and controller uyou are using. any way if it is hitachi hd44780 (16x2 assumed) there is 80 bytes of DDRAM and 32 of which are displaye. rest 48 can be read/writen by user without displaying them by using command 1xxxxxxx
where 'xxxxxxx' is a 7 bit address. for more details go for hd44780 datasheet.
