Perfect. You got the idea. You had earlier asked if you can use optocouplers - as the name suggests thier purpose is to isolate. If used directly at the output port of the MCU then we are talking about a minimum 10mA of current for the LED in the optocoupler. This may or may not be OK for the particular derivative that you use. But if you want to use it after the 74373 or 74573 or some such driver then its good. But not directly on the port pins of MCU.
