Do you have a copy of the SED1530 datasheet? Any apnotes for it? You will need these.

Most of the LCD code I've seen use a Hitachi HD44780 chip, and I'm not sure if this Epson part is compatible...I'm sure others can tell you for sure.

The idea of the code here is to instruct in how to write a particular piece of code, not necessarily be correct for all applications. Given the datasheet, and your code, you should be able to modify to make it work. Pay close attention to the delay times--you will have to look at the generated asm code to calculate the exact timing your code is producing.
