Batronix doa widows editor/simulator/debugger I've found it to be very good, and they have just released a new version. It is designed to go with their programmers, but you don't have to use that if you don't want to.

It has a limit on the size of thr program unless you pay for it, 2K or 4K I can't remember, but let's face it, if you are a student you're probably not writing massive programs - And you can always break it down to debug it.
