#4861 - RE: problem #2 |
Sorry Erik,
Look it up. Collision Detection Multiple Access CDMA This is ETHERNET ! Works pretty well really...all 0 and 1's. The secret is detecting collisions, use a CRC or other checksum on a detected packet, the principle is the same. Listen, start talking, shut up for a random period and try again. Its why the basic 10Meg of 10 base 2 or 10 base T is never as good as you think it will be, because of jabber and contention. Which is why token ring systems are nicer for some applications. We use a simple CDMA system on our 80C320 system by using the framing error bit to decide if we had a mangled byte. Dead easy to implement. No doubt Jay can fill us all in on the statistical basis for CDMA and alternatives.... What long weekend ? Steve |
