#48654 - RE: Invention of WOM Responding to: ???'s previous message |
Kai:
Oh really, you did invent this?? I have to beg difference with you that there was substantial prior art. Of course in all joking, engineers have probably joked about WOM, or write only memory, for as long as there has been memory, or at least since the term ROM came into standard usage. However the claim to the invention of the WOM probably goes elsewhere. I won't go so far to say that the claim goes to Signetics but they made a major stab at introducing a WOM as a "product" back in 1972 when they released a data sheet on or about April 1st for the now famous Signetics 25120, Fully Encoded, 9046xN, Random Access Write-Only-Memory. You can read a bit more about this announcement at Jack Ganssle's WOM web page. Jack has been so kind as to preserve the record of this significant achievement in the semiconductor memory industry by posting copies of this famous data sheet. For those interested here are links to his postings. Signetics 25120 Data Sheet - Page 1 Signetics 25120 Data Sheet - Page 2 Michael Karas |
