Hi Waqar,
T1 is set for 1.25 ms (800Hz). Each time the timer ISR is called, tick is set...tick activates his timed state machine. There are 8 signals being monitored in sequence, so each is monitored every 10 ms (100 Hz). Above MAIN_STATE_1 is the definition of FIVE_SEC_CNT, which is 500 (5 * 100 ms). When a given switch counter has incremented to FIVE_SEC_CNT, five seconds has gone by.
