Thanks a lot for the comments. Appreciiate the gesture.
0. The idea is to collect data from one or more cards from different locations through internet. These days, everybody wants to access data through internet at any time. 1. Lantronix cards are expensive. 2. I have used sparr Bangalore's cards. They cost 100$ plus. 3. The cost is high proobably because products are not easily available. A PC network card costs just 15-20 dollars. RS 232-ethernet is much easier to make (for them who know how to make them) since, (a) OS driivers need not be developed (b) banddwidth optiimisation problems do not exist (c) Arp, TCP, and UDP over IP would cover most appliications. Add HTTP, then Browser interface without much coding is also possible. 4. There is a project running in this site.I was wondering whether this could be used. 5. iinchip has a distributor in Bangalore. I have not checked up the pricing and support. These 3.3 V chips intimidate me. 6. I do not mean terminal server. I have worked with a variety of terminal servers, porting/transferring data from IBM/HP elephants.I am actually from PC side, and my 8051 experience is less than 2 months. I am not really confident to try Open source projects available oon net using 8051. They don't look complicated, and the stacks are available. They use 8051 with realtek/cirrus logic chip or an ethernet card itself. ie: ISA bus input comes from 8051. I was wondering whether any one could advice me on an existiing product, or a working project, that can be taken up by me (considering my limited knowledge). I thank all of you again. Raj |
