I hope you understand that the XOR method of "merging" in new bit values is not exclusively for this port latch/shadow register business. It can be applied directly to a port when appropriate or simply to any RAM variable. On most processor architectures it is a little more efficient than AND-to-clear-bits/OR-to-set-bits method for the general case. |
