The chip is (was?) the sp0256... you can still find it, at a premium price (around US$15)... It was made by General Instruments. later GI (or the voice division chips, I'm not sure) was sold... to maxim? I can't recall..
The winbond chip is nice... the problem is the TSOP56 package... 56 pins, only 26 are used... they should make a version with DIP package and 28 pins, for the poor souls (me!) could thinker with it using protoboards and the like... |
