#5340 - RE: IrDA SDK
mblat,

IrDA software is far from freeware. Companies sell software on a royalty basis and unless you have lots of money to give them, they don't want to do business.

The can do this because the drivers are hard because the standard is confusing and ambiguous.

Every 6.5 weeks we all decide to solve this problem by starting a group effort to write a freeware version of IrDA (or TCPIP on alternate 6.5 weeks) for the 8051. Sanity returns soon after C vs Assembly Language arguments crop up.

The best thing you can do is re-evaluate your need for IrDA until it comes up NOT NEEDED.

I'm going to write an IrDA package in 8051 assembly language (ONLY!) for fun someday but my good work stays within my company.

Look on the bright side and think about Bluetooth. If you design IrDA now, you may be focusing on an nearly extinct standard.

I recommend the IrDUH standard instead.

:)
