#54480 - audio decompression on 8051
I am working a developing a toy that needs to play a couple of sounds or voice approx. 3minutes max. Cost is my biggest concern, than sound quality.

Originally, I want to use that Atmel AT89C51SND1 8051+mpeg decoder, 8051+STA013 decoder chip, 8051+VLSI decoder chip, etc. However, after pricing all these devices they don't seem to be cost efficient. The cost saved in flash memory space is lost in the decoder chip.

I am now looking into developing an 8051+DAC. My audio files will all be 8bit mono *.wav format sampled at 8khz or 11.025khz. I looking for ways to compress this audio files however, i must be able to decompress these files on an 8051 with limited ram apprx. 2k or more.

I am currently looking at the below formats and I wanted to know if anyone has successfully decompress any of the below format on a 8051 in real time. Also,
can you provide your est. compression ratio.

u-Law *I know mu-law can be decompressed on 8051
ADPCM
ASPEC
VOC pack
Huffman
