I am beginning some work to provide 8051 USB driver software support to a customer that has designed a board with the Phillips PDIUSBD12 chip connected to Philips P87C52X2BA microcontroller. It seems to me that it would be handy to have a USB analyzer tool that I could connect to the USB between the target board and the PC during development to help me observe the USB traffic and aid in debugging my drivers.

I have done Google searches looking for such a device and found many products of various types. As a matter of fact there were so many to look that I have come away not sure if any are suitable or not. One thing is for sure.....these devices seem to be WAY WAY OVERPRICED.

The best deal that I could see so far is the product described by this manufacturer... ElliSys. Their price seems to be a ghastly $899 US.

Has anybody here had any experience with a USB analyzer?

Is there anything you may know of that would be less expensive?

Does anyone know where a used one may be bought, rented, or borrowed?
