#55660 - RE: parr cut crystal VS ser cut,, Li,Kai
Responding to: ???'s previous message
The MCP2510 is a standalone CAN controller made by Microchip with a SPI bus on the microcontroller side.

Technically you could connect this part to almost any microcontroller including an 8051 variant.

Those interested in using this part however should keep in mind that Microchip is not recommending this part for new designs. They recommmend instead to use the MCP2515 which is a 2nd generation CAN controller with some additional features. It is supposedly pin and function comparible with the '2510. See here for more information. If I were looking at a CAN controller application I would howevver look real hard at the 8051/8052 types of parts that have the CAN controllers built right on board. There are a number of these in the market including the Cygnal.

Good Luck
