#59331 - Tips from Prof.Kai
Responding to: ???'s previous message
Hi Ricky,

Just read this reply ( in this same thread ) from our dear friend Kai - he has answered your query nicely:

As he rightly says your motor supplier is the best guy to advise on the snubbers. It also depends on availability in your local market.

As to MOVs, yes they can help to an extent in clipping the voltage spikes when the contacts open, but that is just damage control. Kill the problem at the source with the snubbers - at a very basic level it is just a 100 Ohms resistor + 0.01 microFarad capacitor in series. Having heard that, dont attempt to make one yourself ! The capacitor to be used in such application needs to have special flame retardant characteristics and dielectric properties. So get a snubber that is certified.

Good luck.

Raghu
