The reason I ask the device type is that the Falcom(Wavecom too) device requires a 3V logic level interface. I assume you are talking GSM module and not complete MODEM ie. RS232 at +- 12V.

I added all the flow control signals, but found that transmit ,receive and ground were all that were needed.
