Maybe one way to deal with the brownout is to time stamp the MASSVAL sum each time you update it. Then have an RTC in your system as a source of time. Each time you startup you can see if it has been more than the normal 1 second since the last sample time. If the brownout was short duration you could assume the flow continued during the time your microcontroller reset itself. For longer duration you could raise an alert.
